Previously we’ve focused on running a house decorating contest, but in 2026 our competition is to make the best:
Trail houses will be asked to design a spooky photo opportunity for kids taking part in the trail.
Why not try making your own characters?
How about designing your own cut-out board?
Or creating a mini set?
Oh and one more thing…
We’re always looking for ways to make our judging fairer. This trail is run for the benefit of local kids, so why not have them decide which house was the most fun?
All the kids who attend the trail will be given a ‘trail passport’, they’ll be able to use their unique code to vote online, or be able to drop a physical vote in to one of several drop-off points. To incentivise votes, we’ll also be running several competitions for the kids this year!
If you’d like a copy of the Trick or Treat Trail map when it is published, simply pop your email in the box below. We’ll keep you updated about various goings on and send you a digital map that you can print, as well as a link to the trail on Google Maps.
We expect the map to be published around 1 week before the trail, so be sure to add boo@helsbytrickortreat.co.uk to your contacts to avoid our communications going to the spam box!
Back in 2022 we sought to spook up this small Cheshire village and embrace our favourite time of year!
So we put the call out for haunted houses – locals who welcome and embrace Trick or Treaters – and we put them all on a handy map, so parents could take their little monsters on an eerie adventure around Helsby’s homes.
Now in it’s 4th year, Helsby Trick or Treat Trail is hoping to be bigger and better than ever. We run this event for free purely in the spirit of community! So if you live in Helsby and you’d like to register your house for this year’s trail, hit the button below:
Our 2025 Trick or Treat Trail Map is now ready to download or view on Google Maps – Just remember, the houses will only be expecting you between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on Friday 31st October.
We can’t wait to see you in all your spooky costumes, just please remember this map is a collaboration between volunteers. They have funded sweets and treats for lots of trick or treaters, but occasionally they may run out if the trail is very busy.
Please practice good road safety, considerate parking and wear something warm and visible to drivers.
If you are visiting houses that offer an ‘allergy safe treat’, please ensure a parent checks it for safety before giving it to a little one – we will try our best, but he responsibility is with the parents or guardians.
Have a magical night and don’t forget to follow us or check your email box for details if you’d like to vote in the ‘people’s choice’ house decorating contest after the trail!
REALLY IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ.
Every year we have some mix ups due to issues such as:
This trail couldn’t exist without you all – mistakes happen easily, so this is just a gentle, friendly reminder to double check the form before you submit it, add boo@helsbytrickortreat.co.uk to your email contacts and if you’re worried you’re not in the loop, reach out to us on email, instagram or facebook. You can also contact me through my business page at ‘Til Death Bakery if you need a back up 🙂
We’ll also take more responsibility for ensuring things are accurate – this year we will send you a copy of your form responses when we confirm your entry so you can check them. Please allow a bit of time before we respond, but we’ll try our best to keep on top of things.
Your house must be located within the boundaries of this map.
By signing up, participants agree to:
Be listed on a public map (digital or printed) which will be advertised across various platforms.
Welcome trick-or-treaters during the designated hours of 5.30pm to 8.30pm on Saturday October 31st 2026.
Make it visually clear that their house is participating – this may be in the form of décor or signage.
Participants agree to:
Ensure paths, driveways, and steps are well-lit and free of hazards.
Avoid decorations or props that could be dangerous (e.g., open flames, trip hazards).
Keep pets secured away from the door or trick-or-treaters.
Not distribute homemade treats unless you are a registered kitchen with the local EHO.
Participants can opt out at any time by notifying the organiser before 20/10/26 after which the final map is shared.
Participants should acknowledge that their full address and location marker will be shared on both print and digital copies of the map. Any other details provided, such as names and contact information, will not be shared publicly and will be used solely by the map publishers to contact participants with any information relating to the event. Your email address may be stored and used for contact about future events, but you can opt out of this at any time. After the event, all other details are removed from our databases.
As we are running a ‘Photo Op’ contest this year, you should be aware that photos will be taken on your property and may be shared on social media. If you have concerns about this, you should ensure the photo op faces away from your home and use clear signage to guide visitors. You may also opt to be listed as ‘just treats’ on the form below, and participants will be shown on the map that your home does not have a photo op, but you will not be entered into the contest.
You will also be invited to participate in our Facebook group – any content that participants share here is their own responsibility and they may amend or edit it at any time.
If you opt-in to the photo op contest, your entry will be judged this year by the kids who take part in the trail. They will be issued with a ‘trail passport’ which will enable them to vote once.
Winners will be awarded with the prizes stated above and announced in the weeks following the event, there is no cash alternative and the prize must be claimed before 20/11/26.
Grab your goblins and your biggest pumpkin bucket, it’s almost time for the Trick or Treat Trail! Children of all ages are invited to follow our map of haunted houses giving out candy on Halloween night. Signing up is completely free, we only ask that you have a creepy good time.
It’s the only time of year we’re allowed to scare children, so let’s make it count! When you register your house to be on the trail, opt in for the House Decorating Contest to compete for the spookiest, most creative house in Helsby. Your home will be considered by a panel of impartial judges who will rank the houses on the basis of creativity, effort and style. There will also be a ‘People’s Choice Award’ where members of the public can submit their vote for their favourite house.
Viewers beware! Bring your favourite hellraisers and join us for a Horror Movie Trivia Night at The Helsby Tap. We’ll be covering classic slashers, creature features, modern madness, and more. £5 per team of 5 max.
Coven calling… Join us as we host the first ever Witches Coven at The Helsby Tap where we’ll be serving witchy cocktails, crafting, and summoning some good jams.
