Helsby Trick or
Treat Trail

Back in 2022 we sought to spook up this small Cheshire village and embrace our favourite time of year!

So we put the call out for haunted houses – locals who welcome and embrace Trick or Treaters – and we put them all on a handy map, so parents could take their little monsters on an eerie adventure around Helsby’s homes.

Now in it’s 4th year, Helsby Trick or Treat Trail is hoping to be bigger and better than ever. We run this event for free purely in the spirit of community! So if you live in Helsby and you’d like to register your house for this year’s trail, hit the button below:

Trick or treat trail map

Our 2025 Trick or Treat Trail Map is now ready to download or view on Google Maps – Just remember, the houses will only be expecting you between 5.30pm and 8.30pm on Friday 31st October.

We can’t wait to see you in all your spooky costumes, just please remember this map is a collaboration between volunteers. They have funded sweets and treats for lots of trick or treaters, but occasionally they may run out if the trail is very busy.

Please practice good road safety, considerate parking and wear something warm and visible to drivers.

If you are visiting houses that offer an ‘allergy safe treat’, please ensure a parent checks it for safety before giving it to a little one – we will try our best, but he responsibility is with the parents or guardians.

Have a magical night and don’t forget to follow us or check your email box for details if you’d like to vote in the ‘people’s choice’ house decorating contest after the trail!

Register Your House for the trail

But First, the rules...

Please carefully read the following points to ensure your house can take part in the trail map.

Applications are not confirmed until our team has reviewed your submission and sent out an acceptance email. Please allow up to a week for a response.

Participation Agreement

Your house must be located within the boundaries of this map.

By signing up, participants agree to:

  • Be listed on a public map (digital or printed) which will be advertised across various platforms.

  • Welcome trick-or-treaters during the designated hours of 5.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday October 31st.

  • Make it visually clear that their house is participating – this may be in the form of décor or signage.

  • Acknowledge that the Helsby Trick or Treat Trail is NOT a managed event. The map serves only as a guide to houses in Helsby who welcome Trick or Treaters. The publishers of the map are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage that may occur during Halloween trick-or-treating activities. All participants are responsible for maintaining safety at their property.
  • Provide a reasonable amount of treats for visitors.
  • Display clear signage if they have ran out of treats, unexpectedly had to leave the house or desire that visitors do not knock.

Safety Expectations

Participants agree to:

  • Ensure paths, driveways, and steps are well-lit and free of hazards.

  • Avoid decorations or props that could be dangerous (e.g., open flames, trip hazards).

  • Avoid creating decorations or acting in a way that would not be suitable for young children – this mostly applies to frights!
  • Keep pets secured away from the door or trick-or-treaters.

  • Not distribute homemade treats unless you are a registered kitchen with the local EHO.

Opt-Out Clause

Participants can opt out at any time by notifying the organiser before 20/10/25 after which the final map is shared.

Privacy and GDPR

Participants should acknowledge that their full address and location marker will be shared on both print and digital copies of the map. Any other details provided, such as names and contact information, will not be shared publicly and will be used solely by the map publishers to contact participants with any information relating to the event. Your email address may be stored and used for contact about future events, but you can opt out of this at any time. After the event, all other details are removed from our databases.

Photography and Social Media

Unless you have opted out in the form below, the map publishers and event participants may take photos of your property and share these on social media. We do not have control of photos taken by the public, so if you wish to deter any being taken, you should provide clear signage. You may contact us at any time to remove any photos of your property.

You will also be invited to participate in our Facebook group – any content that participants share here is their own responsibility and they may amend or edit it at any time.

House Decorating Contest

If you opt-in to the house decorating contest, your home will be considered by a panel of impartial judges who will rank the houses on the basis of creativity, effort and style. They will take into consideration factors such as budget – you do not need to spend a fortune to have a chance at winning!

Houses will also be entered into a ‘peoples choice award’. To enter this, participants must provide a clear photo of their decorations by 30/10/25 which will be used on our online web gallery. The public may then vote on the basis of ranking every single house on a scale of 1-3 points. All submissions will be manually reviewed and any suspicious votes will be removed. ‘Suspicious’ includes but is not limited to:

  • Multiple submissions from the same IP address, email address, name or family name.
  • Quick successions of multiple submissions.
  • Submissions where one house is clearly the preference (i.e. ranking one house a 3, and every other house a 1.)

Winners in each category will be awarded with a gift hamper, there is no cash alternative and the prize must be claimed before 07/11/25.
